Kayla Wong is a recent graduate of the International Baccalaureate program at Lakewood High School and is currently taking a gap year. She will attend Pratt Institute in the fall of 2023 to study fashion design.
Playing piano was an integral aspect of Kayla’s life, teaching her perseverance and courage while also being a way to express herself. She began her piano studies at four. In 2016, she composed and patented a piece for the harp and piano entitled Never Ending Mountain. This piece was entered into the PTA Reflections Contest — advancing to the state level and placing second place in the music composition category. In 2020, Kayla competed against more than 160 high school teens in the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, based in New York City, earning one of the two honorable mentions given and was interviewed by 9 News.
Kayla is enjoying utilizing her skills and passion for piano by teaching the students at Maestro Music Institute.
